As a youth ambassador for the National Diaper Bank Network, I aim to stay aware of what’s being worked on at a higher level to end diaper need. My efforts to collect over 12,000 diapers are helpful, but what’s next?
Each year, the National Diaper Bank Network hosts Lobby Days where they train advocacy experts, provide policy updates and lobbying guides, and set up appointments with Congressional staff with the hopes of passing legislation that provides funding for diaper banks. Last year’s efforts resulted in a major legislative win: New York will allocate $1,500,000 in funding for 16 diaper banks during 2025!
I recently applied for a scholarship opportunity to attend Lobby Days. With my undergraduate studies fast approaching (if accepted), I see this as an incredible, hands-on opportunity to learn how to tackle issues challenging communities vulnerable to poverty.
You, too, can help! If you’ve already donated diapers to my cause and are motivated to do more, please write to your senator and local representative asking them to support the End Diaper Need Act.
